Designers can assist you with as much, or as little, as you would like. The time poor can celebrate in the fact that their designer is capable of completing the entire project from start to finish with minimal involvement on their end. Alternatively, your designer could assist you with the smaller tasks, such as simply helping you choose your colours, fabrics or furniture items. Pricing is scaled according to how much time and work you require from your designer  – often people don’t realise how affordable it can be.

9. They're FLEXIBLE

As a Professional Interior Designer myself, one of the biggest issues with the industry is the fact that many potential clients don't really realise that, as Alexandrea says, interior design can actually be more affordable than they first imagined.

Throughout the industry, pricing structures differ quite largely and I believe this is one of the problems we have to overcome. Some designers charge a standard fee for full packages and an hourly rate for smaller projects, others charge an hourly rate for whatever work they undertake.. I have known hourly rates starting at just $90.00 and some north of $180.00 per hour - quite a difference!! So how do clients know where they should be looking? First thing they should do is check out their work, chat to past clients, is the company a member of the DIA (Design Institute of Australia), are they qualified, do they have HIA or BSA registration, what do you get for your doe and of course, do they fit your style ideals?? 

One really great place to look is for NEW Blood, new design companies are out there looking to break into the industry and of course, often offer discount rates to clients that help them achieve this.. Another advantage to these companies is that they're often fresh from studies and SUPER passionate about design and seriously clued into the latest fashions, trends and market leading products! 

No matter where you go, make sure they speak your language and they're reputable..
